South Brings Home The Gold: Three of South’s wines win the highest honor, double gold!
South Seattle Community College announced today that the school’s Northwest Wine Academy (NWWA) was honored with eight medals in the annual Seattle Wine Awards.
Three of South’s NWWA entries were recognized with the highest honor, double gold. These entries include: 2011 Northwest Wine Academy Late Harvest Viognier (Late Harvest Dessert Style, all pricing), 2010 Northwest Wine Academy Cabernet Sauvignon (Cabernet Sauvignon, $20 and under), 2011 Northwest Wine and Academy Mourvedre (Red Varieties, $20 and under).
Three of South’s NWWA entries were also recognized with gold medals. They include: 2012 Northwest Wine Academy Dry Rosé (Blended Rosé, all pricing), 2011 Northwest Wine Academy Riesling (Riesling, all pricing), 2011 and Northwest Wine Academy Nebbiolo (Red Varieties, $20 and under).
NWWA’s 2010 Northwest Wine Academy Merlot (Merlot, $20 and under), and 2010 Northwest Wine Academy Petit Verdot (Red Varieties, $20 and under) were both honored with bronze medals.
“We are truly honored to receive recognition for every wine that we entered,” explained Regina Daigneault, an instructor and coordinator at South’s NWWA. “It’s a real credit to our students; they worked hard and earned every one of these medals.”
In addition to the recognition that South’s NWWA earned, several NWWA alums were honored with 10 double golds.
With a judging panel that includes Master Sommeliers, Masters of Wine, Professors of Viticulture & Enology, Wine Journalists, Wine Directors, Corporate Buyers and Wine Shop Proprietors, the Seattle Wine Awards tasting panel included some of Seattle’s most prominent wine professionals.
