Calling All Writers! League for Innovation Literary Contest 2014
Attention South students: It's time to sharpen the pencils, fill up the ink wells, dust off those keyboards and start writing! Your creativity can win you national recognition and a nice chunk of prize money (as it has for South students in the past).
The "League for Innovation in the Community College" Student Literary Competition 2013-2014 is a national competition currently accepting applications until Wednesday, March 19. This year's competition, "INNER MOONLIGHT," is being hosted by Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, KS.
Last year, South's very own Audrey Ackerman won second place nationally for her play, "Close to the Son," and Seattle Central student James K. Smith took second for his short story, "Elf-kicker." In fact, Seattle District students (including South Seattle, Seattle Central and North Seattle Community Colleges) have placed first and/or second in the past five competitions.
South scribes can enter four categories: fiction, one-act play, personal essay and poetry. Student winners at the local District level advance to the national competition. Just so you know, there is real money at stake in addition to literary accolades! First place entries win $500, second place takes home $200 and third place garners a respectable $100.
To be eligible, students must submit a completed application and their literary entry on BOTH hard copy (to the campus coordinator's office) AND in an e-version (emailed to campus coordinator as a Word attachment).
