Meet Our 13th Year Promise Scholars!

13th Year Promise Scholarship Recipients

In 2012, the South Seattle Community College Foundation expanded its 13th Year Promise Scholarship to Chief Sealth International High School in West Seattle. The scholarship, which is funded by private donations, guarantees one-year of free tuition at South Seattle Community College for all graduating seniors from area high schools.

With the arrival of Spring Quarter 2014, the inaugural recipients of the scholarship from Chief Sealth’s graduating class of 2012 are now preparing to graduate from South, including those pictured here.  From left to right are South students and 13th Year Promise scholars Dwaysha McCraney (studying Psychology with plans to graduate in Spring '14), Ruben DeLeon (earning his A.A. in Business with plans to graduate in Spring '14), Evan Nguyen (studied Psychology and graduated in Winter '14) and Stephanie Patterson (an A.A. Transfer student who also graduated in Winter '14).

Since its inception in 2008, the 13th Year Promise Scholarship has helped more than 300 students achieve their academic dreams by enrolling at South and working toward a fulfilling career. In addition to Chief Sealth International High School, this scholarship is also offered to all graduating seniors from Cleveland High School and, most recently, Rainier Beach High School.
