Two South Students Honored for Academics

President Gary Oertli and All-Washington Academic Team Honorees

The students who make up the All-Washington Team reflect the diversity of the state, maintain high standards of excellence, and contribute positively to the community. Their stories are often inspiring, sometimes surprising, and are always reflective of the larger story of the state's community and technical college students. South's representatives exemplified this model.

As President and Founder of South Seattle College's Aviation Maintenance Club, Hudelson keeps a full schedule. In addition to holding down a full time job and volunteering, Hudelson has set her sights on graduation while maintaining a 3.5 cumulative G.P.A. She plans on continuing her education earning a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and will put it into practice as a CAD Mechanical Engineer.

Born and raised in Vietnam, Phan dreamed of receiving an American education in hopes of a bright future to "pay his parents back" for their undying support. Phan has maintained a 3.82 cumulative G.P.A. and was recognized on the Dean's List. An active student, Phan serves the campus as a representative in student government. On track to graduate this year, Phan ultimately plans to earn a Master's Degree in Business.

President Gary Oertli, who accompanied the students, shared his enthusiasm for today's program.

"I look forward to attending this event every year," Oertli explained. "It gives me a chance to spend some time with our students, and the atmosphere is so positive and motivational. It's really moving to see a room full of students who are excelling in the classroom and are making a positive difference on their campus."
