New WorkSource Connection Site Celebrated at Georgetown Campus

South Seattle College WorkSource team

South Seattle College welcomed the Georgetown community to the school's Georgetown campus on April 23 to celebrate the new WorkSource Connection Site.

WorkSource is a FREE community resource open to both the public and South students. Qualified staff help in all aspects of the employment search – from job training opportunities to setting up interviews to land that ideal job.

South's Vice President of Instruction Donna Miller-Parker attended the event and cut the ribbon, officially welcoming the community to our newest WorkSource Site (WorkSource is also located on our West Seattle campus).

"From February to April we have gone from something that was in the mind of a few people to a lovely center that is staffed, that is equipped, and that is serving people," Miller-Parker said. "That is an amazing pace, and it's due to WorkSource Directory Kelly DeForrest's leadership, our employer and agency partners, our community members and our students."

Along with the ribbon-cutting, hot dogs and hamburgers were served while several people met with WorkSource staff and took those first steps towards fulfilling employment.

Jonathan Achelles attended the celebration and said he started working with WorkSource Navigator Mary Lockman only a few weeks ago.

"She really helped me out," Achelles said. "I started with nothing, but they work with you. She has me in composites and welding classes and she is helping me find a job right now."
