The aerospace industry in Washington is soaring with over 132,500 people working at over 1,350 aerospace-related businesses throughout the state. According to Governor Jay Inslee's 2014 Aerospace Industry Strategy, the field "supported $76 billion in sales and paid wages totaling $11.5 billion, representing 11 percent of all wages earned in the state in 2012."

For many employed in the industry today, their path to becoming an Aviation Maintenance Technician started right here at South Seattle College.

"South Seattle College is an excellent way to get your foot in the door with Alaska Airlines," said Steve Smith, Maintenance Manager at Alaska. "With as many good employees as we have from that program, we will notice that on the resume."

If you are considering a new career with a stable future in Washington, consider joining the aviation industry. It all starts with signing up for AMT 111: Basic Science for Aviation.

AMT 111 is the first course of South's 8-quarter (two year) Aviation Maintenance Technician program, where graduates currently experience a 95 percent job placement rate, according to Dean of Aviation Kim Alexander. Students will learn the foundations of maintenance on both small and large aircrafts from experienced faculty.
