Sustainable Building Science Technology Student Wins Facility Management Scholarship

Georgetown Campus

Bachelor of Applied Science in Sustainable Building Science Technology student Amy Cho, a senior at South Seattle College, has been awarded by the International Facility Management Association Foundation with an $8,250 scholarship. Amy’s award was presented by the San Diego IFMA Chapter and includes, in addition to the scholarship funds, registration and travelling expenses to attend IFMA’s World Workplace Conference in Houston this October.

The scholarship is the largest award presented by IFMA in 2017, with IFMA Foundation executives being particularly impressed with Amy’s strong application and background experiences.

Cho is currently employed as a Project Solutions Manager at Honeywell. She began the SBST program in fall 2015, and has been the recipient of several other scholarships, including awards from the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers, the Association of Energy Engineers and the South Seattle College Foundation. Cho is also a Certified Energy Manager (CEM).

Launched in 2014, the Sustainable Building Science Technology bachelor’s degree program at South is designed for working adults with experience in building operations and management. The program builds on students’ existing technical associate degrees and credentials, plus workplace experience to achieve their bachelor’s degree. The program was developed with support from the National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education division.

In May, the program was honored with the 2017 Energy Facilities Innovation Award, presented by the Northwest Energy Efficiency Council and Washington State University’s Energy Program.
