Sebastian Myrick of TRiO Pre-College Programs Named Washington’s ACT Postsecondary Champion
Sebastian Myrick, executive director of TRiO Pre-College Programs at South Seattle College, has been named Washington State’s ACT Postsecondary Champion for 2018.
The ACT College and Career Readiness Champions are high school seniors, K-12 professionals, postsecondary professionals and workforce professionals who are making a positive impact on their communities through their efforts to advance college and career readiness for all. ACT State Councils – comprised of education and workforce professionals from all 50 states – serve as the selection committee and select one Champion per category for each participating state.
As executive director of SSC’s Talent Search and Upward Bound programs, Myrick’s career is dedicated to supporting underserved students in their goals of going to college, graduating and starting fulfilling careers. Talent Search helps low-income and first-generation students from West Seattle in successfully graduate from secondary school and enroll in post-secondary education. Upward Bound provides low-income and first-generation students from the Highline School District with the skills and motivation to complete high school, go to college and graduate. Both programs are funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
