Earn Your Degree While Making Industry Connections with South Seattle College’s Diesel Industrial Sector Cohort (DISC) Program

Diesel & Heavy Equipment Technology students

South Seattle College’s Diesel Industry Sector Cohort (DISC) program, created in partnership with some of Seattle’s largest diesel employers, will offer industry-focused
training through the college’s Diesel & Heavy Equipment Technology department beginning Fall 2018.

With DISC, top employers from the private sector sponsor a student of their choosing with an eye towards employment during (and at the completion of) the program. Upon graduation, students will earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Diesel & Heavy Equipment Technology, and will be well positioned to enter the industry as a full-time technician.

The DISC program was created in response to high industry demand for experienced diesel technicians. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates no fewer than 25,800 diesel technician jobs will be added to the field by 2026, leading to a total of at least 304,600 diesel technician jobs in the US by that year. There are multiple options to help students pay for the program, including state and federal funds. Select DISC students may also be sponsored by participating employers. Some sponsors offer paid internships (17 hours a week) to help offset costs, while others pay the entire cost of the program.

Learn more at South’s Diesel & Heavy Equipment Technology Open House on August 9 from 1-2 p.m. or August 22 from 6-7 p.m. All Open Houses are held in the Technology Center (TEC), room 106. (campus map)
