Seattle Colleges’ 46th Annual Community Celebration of Martin Luther King
Please join the Seattle Colleges District and Seattle community for this year’s event to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., taking place at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Seattle from Noon to 1:30pm on Friday, January 18, 2019. If you cannot attend the event in person, it will be livestreamed in the Rainier Hall Little Theater (RAH 125) at South Seattle College, with doors opening at 11:30 a.m. You can also livestream the event from your personal computer by visiting this link (livestream will become available around 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 18).
The event’s emcee is Monique Ming Lavern, KIRO 7 evening anchor and music will be provided by DaNell Daymon and Greater Works.
Special Keynote Speaker is Georgetown University sociology professor, Michael Eric Dyson. Dyson, a frequent contributor to the New York Times and comentator on MSNBC, says of Dr. King, “He was one of the greatest Americans in the history of this land. He grew, deepened his understanding of American democracy and the opposition to it, and began to call upon America to forge a new path. He believed that America was essentially a dream. And as a dream, it could be reimagined.”
