Celebrating our Student Employees during National Student Employment Week

This week, South Seattle College is proud to celebrate National Student Employment Week, a time to recognize and appreciate the outstanding contributions of our student employees. These students play a vital role in keeping our College running smoothly, all while balancing the demands of their academic journey.
From Student Services to the President’s Office, student employees support nearly every department across campus. Their energy, dedication, and hard work help create a vibrant, welcoming environment for everyone at South.
National Student Employment Week, declared annually by the National Student Employment Association (NSEA) during the second full week of April, was established to shine a spotlight on students who work while pursuing their education. It’s also an opportunity to recognize the supervisors who mentor and support these students—providing the guidance, training, and development that prepare them for future careers.
“Our student workers bring a unique perspective and energy that enriches our campus community,” said South Seattle College President Monica Brown. “They juggle academic responsibilities with work commitments and do so with remarkable grace and efficiency. We are incredibly fortunate to have you as part of our team.”
At South, student employees fall into two categories: Work Study and Direct Hires.
The Work Study program offers on-campus job opportunities to students with demonstrated financial need.
Direct student employment positions are filled directly by departments looking for student support.
Both pathways offer valuable, real-world experience and help students build the skills and confidence they’ll need after graduation.
“Work Study is more than just a paycheck—it’s an opportunity for students to gain professional experience, build confidence, and connect more deeply with the college community. We see students thrive when given the chance to contribute their talents on campus,” said Arron Kong, South Seattle College Financial Aid and Veteran Affairs Specialist.
We invite the entire South community to join us in celebrating National Student Employment Week! If you see a student employee, take a moment to congratulate them and thank them for the incredible work they do every day.
