Seattle Colleges' Allied Health program is hosting a series of virtual guest speakers throughout Winter Quarter 2021. The Allied Health Speakers Series mission is to provide information for various careers in allied health, help individuals decide what career may be the best fit for them and assist with reducing barriers that may prevent students from becoming competitive applicants for the career field of their choice.

Sheila shares her story “My Successful Application to Seattle University’s RN Program”. Sheila will share her experience on the application process and how South Seattle College prepared her for Seattle University’s RN program.

Jessica Ross who currently practices as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner at River Valley Psychological Services in Renton and Issaquah Washington. Ms. Ross shares her story “My Journey to Becoming a Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and Integrated Medicine Provider”.
The COPE Health Scholar Program, Jon Thunstrom

The Allied Speaker Success Series is honored to welcome the COPE Scholar Program. The COPE Health Scholar program serves at the First Hill and Cherry Hill locations and offers individuals a great opportunity to gain clinical and patient care experience in the hospital setting. This program exposes individuals interested in a future healthcare occupation, a chance to work with an array of staff to develop various hands-on skills and approaches towards patient care. The volunteer program grants us a more in-depth opportunity to interact with patients that very few other hospital volunteer programs offer! The program is for students who are 16+ and 18+ years or older.
Pathway to a Certified Nurse Midwife in Washington State, Ira Krantowitz-Gordon

The Allied Health Speaker Success Series is honored to welcome Certified Nurse Midwife, Ira Krantowitz-Gordon and Assistant Professor at the University of Washington. Dr. Krantowitz Gordon is also currently the Lead for Nurse-Midwifery and Perinatal Certified Nursing Tracks at the University of Washington. Dr. Gordon will present information on the two professional pathways to midwifery in Washington State, Certified Nurse Midwife and Certified Professional Midwife. He also discuss the profession including the process of birth.
So You Want to Be a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist, Janet Kapp

The Allied Health Speaker Success Series is Honored to welcome Registered Dietician and South Seattle College Instructor Janet Kapp. Janet offers advice on how to prepare for professional programs in nutrition, which schools to apply to and how South Seattle College can prepare you for a professional program in Nutrition.
