Celebrate Black History Month at the 1st Annual Pan African Festival

In celebration of Black History Month, South Seattle College’s Black Student Union is proud to announce the 1st annual Pan African Festival. From February 12-15, 2018 check out the events on campus every day from 1 to 3 p.m., including art and dance workshops, the African Diasporic History Fair and the finale celebration. Meet new friends and learn more about African and African American cultures all week long!

All students and community members are welcome to attend!

 

Monday, February 12: “Paint & Sip Event”

1-3 p.m., Jerry Brockey Center A & B 

In conjunction with the South Seattle College Art Gallery, the first day of the festival will focus on strengthening connections between students through art! Join us in JMB A and B for “Paint & Sip!” Grab a free cup of coffee or hot chocolate, and paint your canvas alongside guest artist A.O. Hamer. All art materials will be provided!

 

Tuesday, February 13: “Salsa & Afrobeat Workshop”

1-3 p.m., Olympic Hall 120 (Theater)  

The second day of the festival will focus on African music and dance! Join us in OLY 120 to learn the fundamentals of African dance at the “Salsa & Afrobeat Workshop!” All skill levels are welcome to attend.

 

Wednesday, February 14: “African Diaspora History Fair” 

1-3 p.m., Jerry Brockey Center A & B 

Focusing on both African and African American history, we’ll be joined by South Sociology Instructor Allen Stowers and Assistant Director of TRIO Student Success Services, Leon Haskins who will lead a discussion on the history of several countries in the African diaspora.

 

Thursday, February 15: “Finale Celebration” 

1-3 p.m., Olympic Hall 120 (Theater)  

Join us on Thursday for the end of week celebration! FREE food and snacks will be provided, with performances by South Seattle College students and clubs!
